Customizing your OpenFlexure Microscope - Color Options

All of the 3D-printed parts in the OpenFlexure Microscope Kit are printed by IO Rodeo in-house using a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon filament printer. The filament we use is the Bambu PLA Basic filament.

PLA Basic
PLA is the most common material in 3D printing as it’s easy to print and inexpensive. Meanwhile, its stiffness and strength can meet most printing needs. It is worth mentioning that it can biodegrade in some artificial composting conditions. Bambu PLA Basic is designed for high-speed printing. Compared to general PLA, it can easily achieve printing speeds up to 250-300 mm/s and has excellent toughness and Z-layer strength.

Customizing your color scheme

One of the fun aspects of the OpenFlexure microscope is the ability to customize the microscope color scheme as you want. There are lots of colors options, which we have simplified down to the following options:

One-color microscope

Choose one primary color from the color options listed above for all of the microscope parts

One-color microscope: Primary color is cyan

Two-color microscope

Choose a primary color and an accent color from the color options listed above.

  • Primary color: Microscope base, Main body, Feet, Large gears, Illumination dovetail, Condenser arm and lid
  • Accent color: Electronics drawer, Cable tidies, Sample clips and Small gears
Two-color microscope: Primary color is grey, accent color is black

Three-color microscope

Select a primary color, accent color and base color from the color options listed above.

  • Primary color: Main body, Feet, Large gears, illumination dovetail, Condenser arm and lid
  • Accent color: Electronics drawer, Cable tidies, Sample clips and small gears 
  • Base color: Microscope stand
Three-color microscope: Primary color is white, Accent color is blue, Base color is black
