Rodeostat Screen Printed Electrode (SPE) Adapters
We offer a variety of screen printed electrode adapters designed for screen printed electrodes (SPE's) with different electrode configuration, electrode spacing and electrode sizes. They all connect to the 3-pin header on the Rodeostat with a 12" cable.
Electrode Spacing & Configuration
When choosing an electrode adapter, you will first determine the SPE configuration and spacing. Our SPE adapters are categorized by the number and spacing of the electrode pads. For simplicity, we refer to these different versions as Type A, B, C etc.
- Type A: 0.1" pad spacing, 5-positions
- Type B: 0.1" pad spacing, 3-positions
- Type C: 0.156" pad spacing, 3-positions
Within each of these different types, there are also different electrode configurations, which is important for connecting the correct electrodes on the SPE to the correct header on the Rodeostat. Each type of adapter is specified by the order of the electrode pads on the printed electrode. In other words, the order of the pads for the working (W), counter (C) and reference (R) electrodes from left to right with the electrode connectors at the bottom as shown in the figure below.
For example, a Type B/CWR adapter works with electrodes that have 3-position, 0.1" spacing and an C/W/R configuration. The Type B/WCR has similar spacing but the electrode order is different.
Four versions are currently available for different screen printed electrode configurations.
- Type A/CWxWR - 5-position card edge connector with 0.100" spacing. Suitable for using with Pine Research carbon SPE
- Type B/CRW - 3-position card edge connector with 0.100" spacing. Suitable for using with any screen printed electrodes with a Type B C/W/R configuration e.g. Zimmer & Peacock Hypervalue and Hypervalue 501 carbon SPEs or Metrohm DropSens 110 electrodes.
- Type B/WCR - 3-position card edge connector with 0.100" spacing. Suitable for using with any screen printed electrodes with a Type B W/C/R configuration e.g. OneTouch glucose test strips.
- Type C/RWC - 3-position card edge connector with 0.156" spacing. Suitable for using with any screen printed electrodes with a Type C R/W/C configuration e.g. Zensor screen printed cards sold by CH Instruments.
SPE adapter housing & slot size
In 2024, we designed 3D-printed housing for the adapters, starting with two of the most popular Type B adapters. We will be adding housing to other adapters in the future.
The adapter housing serves an important function of improving the electrode connection. Firstly, an internal tab in the adapter secures the electrode firmly in place. Secondly, the electrode slot on the front is important for guiding the electrode to the right connection and additionally holding the electrode firmly in place. As screen printed electrodes vary in sizes, we offer a few slot width options.
