Part 4. Understanding the full workflow
Arsenic measurements follow the same basic workflow from preparing reagents to reviewing data.
Every arsenic measurement follows the same basic workflow. Do not worry if some terms are unfamiliar at first. Each step is explained in this guide.
| Step | Action | Main output |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prepare reagents | Conditioning acid, measurement electrolyte, arsenic standard. |
| 2 | Condition the electrode | A clean and active gold electrode surface. |
| 3 | Prepare the sample | A correctly acidified measurement cell with known sample volume and total volume. |
| 4 | Measure the sample | Replicate voltammograms of the unknown sample. |
| 5 | Perform standard addition 1 | Replicate voltammograms after first known arsenic spike. |
| 6 | Perform standard addition 2 | Replicate voltammograms after second known arsenic spike. |
| 7 | Analyze peaks | Peak heights for sample and standard additions. |
| 8 | Calculate concentration | Dilution-corrected arsenic concentration in µg/L, equivalent to ppb. |
| 9 | Review quality | Decision on whether the result is acceptable, questionable, or should be repeated. |
