3D printed cuvette/tube holders and PyBadge enclosure
Cuvette/tube holders
The Open Colorimeter's LED boards and light sensor electronics are mounted onto a 3D-printed black resin cuvette/tube holder. Currently we have two different versions of cuvette/tube holders outlined below.
Standard tube/cuvette holder
- Used with the Open Colorimeter, UV Open Colorimeter and Multichannel Colorimeter versions
- Dimensions (L x W x H): 54 mm x 34.5 mm x 43.5 mm
- Recessed mounts on one side for the LED and light sensor boards
- Recessed circular space for a light-blocking black cap
- Filters: 6 x 6 mm cut-out for inserting a filter in front of the light sensor
- Base flange with 4 mount holes for mounting to the PyBadge enclosure
Plus tube & cuvette holders
- Used with the Open Colorimeter Plus
- Dimensions (L x W x H): 62 mm x 32 mm x 41 mm
- Recessed mount for the 90° measurement sensor
- Extruded mounts for the LED board and second 180° calibration sensor
- Recessed circular space for a light-blocking black cap
- Filters: 6 x 6 mm cut-out for inserting a filter in front of the light sensor
- Base flange with 4 mount holes for mounting to the PyBadge enclosure
PyBadge Enclosure
The PyBadge mounts into the 3D-printed black resin enclosure with a cover shown below.
Design files and methods
We have been using FreeCAD for 3D hardware designs as described in this previous Newsletter. In this project we used the KiCad StepUp workbench to import a 3D model of the Sensor and LED PCBs from KiCad and the A2plus Workbench to create an assembly of the complete enclosure. We also used a 3D model of the PyBadge made available at Adafruit CAD Parts on github.
