OpenArsenic Documentation

Documentation for using OpenVoltam and the Rodeostat for arsenic detection in groundwater

OpenArsenic is an open-source arsenic detection platform designed to make arsenic monitoring more accessible, affordable, and transparent. The system combines low-cost electrochemical hardware, open-source software, and comprehensive documentation to enable arsenic measurements in groundwater without requiring expensive laboratory equipment or highly specialized analytical expertise.

Project Documentation

The documents listed in the table below form the complete OpenArsenic documentation package.

  • Introduction: A short introduction to the arsenic concentration test measurement process.
  • Laboratory Manual: This manual provides detailed instructions for performing arsenic measurements using the OpenArsenic platform
  • Getting Started Guide: Provides a practical introduction for first-time users and describes how to perform a first measurement with the system.
  • OpenVoltam User Manual: Provides detailed instructions for using the OpenVoltam software.
  • Cheatsheets: Straightforward 'how-to' manuals for arsenic measurements and electrode conditioning

Introduction

CTA Image

This document is a short introduction to the arsenic concentration test measurement process. It is a very brief overview, not a thorough treatment. It should, however, provide enough perspective and definition of terms to facilitate understanding the test and analysis steps in the subsequent documents and for successfully following the procedures described. Includes background on electroplating and stripping, Potentiostat and measuring arsenic in water by standard addition method.

Introduction

Lab Manual

CTA Image

This manual provides detailed instructions for performing arsenic measurements using the OpenArsenic platform. The primary goal of this document is to help users generate reliable and scientifically defensible arsenic measurements. While other project documentation focuses on getting started quickly or operating the software, this manual serves as the technical reference for the analytical method itself.

OpenVoltam is an open-source software platform for electrochemical data acquisition, analysis, visualization, and quantification. The software provides an accessible and transparent interface for designing electrochemical methods, acquiring voltammetric data, performing data analysis, and organizing measurement results using supported potentiostats such as the Rodeostat. OpenVoltam is intended as a general-purpose software package for voltammetric measurements and is not limited to a single analytical application or analyte. The software can be adapted for a wide range of electrochemical methods and research applications.
